Waterfalls in Greater Manchester

Waterfalls in Greater Manchester often occur at the site of geological faults in sandstone areas and through solubility of limestone in other areas. However, many water sources have been modified during the industrial revolution so many waterfalls found in the Manchester area have been artificially created, enhanced or destroyed by stone quarrying and by the creation of reservoirs. Other waterfalls found in the Manchester area are artificial weirs to control water or artificial waterfalls found in the parklands of public gardens or stately homes.
