Wellingborough is a market town in the North Northamptonshiredistrict of Northamptonshire.
At the time of the 2011 census, its population was 21,775. 12 miles (19 km) east of Northampton on the A45 . It is situated on the south-eastern escarpment of Rockingham Forest , an ancient royal hunting forest which spans the border between Northamptonshire and Leicestershire .
It has a population of 21,775 (2011 Census) making it the largest town in Northamptonshire before the county council reorganisation in 1974 Wellingborough was at one time larger than Northampton itself. For centuries Wellingborough was a small market town based on cloth making and shoe manufacturing. During industrial development in late Victorian times coal.
