Stotfold Watermill and Nature Reserve

Grade ii listed Stotfold Mill is of early 19th Century construction with late 19th Century additions and alterations. The earlier part of the mill has inscribed bricks: “W.P.”, “G.Bally 1825”, “R.P.” and “C.H.”. Earlier part has gault brick ground floor and weatherboarding to upper floors.

Later parts are of gault brick. Slate roofs. Original block of 3 storeys and attics, later 4- storeyed block to N. Main block: sash windows with glazing bars in moulded surrounds, in asymmetrical arrangement. Plank doors, 2 each to ground and first floors. Sack hoist projects from attic, R of centre. Said to retain overshot wheel and machinery. Late C19 boilerhouse to rear has tall square- section chimney with diamond patterning in red brick. LH block: 3-window range. All sash windows with glazing bars, all under red brick cambered heads.
