Redbourn

The village of Redbourn in St Albans, Hertfordshire lies on the historic Roman road of Watling Street and is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. The name ‘Redbourn’ comes from the Old English words for ‘red stream’, referring to the bourne or brook that flows through the village.

The village has a long history and was once home to a large Royalist garrison during the English Civil War. It later became an important staging post on the coaching route between London and Birmingham. In Victorian times, Redbourn was known for its many nurseries and market gardens, which supplied fresh produce to the capital.

Today, Redbourn is a thriving community with a strong sense of identity. The village has a number of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as good schools and leisure facilities. There is also a lively calendar of events, including an annual street fair and farmers’ market.

Redbourn is just a few miles from the historic city of St Albans and within easy reach of London.
