Halliwell Fold Bridge

Halliwell Fold Bridge in Roddlesworth Woods has no real claim-to-fame other than it is at a junction of many people’s favoured walking routes through Roddlesworth Woods and is quite picturesque in its setting.

On the site of an old ford and next to a quarried out section of river there is an old “fish pond” shown just above the river and the stone-lined outflow channels into the river can still be found in a ruinous state today, just where the water now floods the track making its way down into the stream.

There are interesting bedding planes exposed in the stream bed just downstream and perhaps the areas nicest paddling spot just upstream of Halliwell Fold Bridge.

The bridge itself is quite an odd stone and brick construction and I’m not sure of its age although a bridge is shown here around 1850 on the old OS maps.
