If you’re lucky, you might even find some fossils!

At the end of the Jurassic Period, around 120 million years ago, the world was home to dinosaurs and you can search for their fossilized foot casts in the sand near Hanover Point.

The best place to search for fossils on ‘Dinosaur Island’ is on the beach at Compton Bay. Not only is it Europe’s richest source of dinosaur remains, but it also contains other intriguing finds.

Compton Bay and Downs is in Isle Of Wight AONB, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
