Bold Venture Park

A smashing little park in Darwen with a lake, landscaped parkland and playground areas, with paths leading up out of the park to the surrounding moorland.

Bold Venture Park is situated in the town of Darwen and was constructed in the late 19 Century on land formerly used for quarrying, by lord of the manor, a Rev. W A Duckworth according to the Blackburn and Darwen council site. The historic parkland is now grade ii listed.

There is an interesting memorial to WW1 facing away from the main gateway, overlooking the ornamental lake which is fed by Bold Venture Brook as it flows down in a series of landscaped cascades and even a good sized waterfall - though this is often lacking a good flow of water.

Other historical remains in Bold Venture Park include the Shorrock Drinking Fountain and a modern installation on the site of the old Hindle Aviary which once housed exotic birds. There is also the stone-built base of an old kiosk.

The park contains a children’s play area close to the main entrance which looks to have a good selection of apparatus.
