Painted Lady

Painted Lady

Latin name: Vanessa cardui

Painted Lady butterflies are visitors to Britain each year, arriving in large numbers in late summer. They are unable to survive the British winter.

No other British butterfly has pale orange upperside and black wing tips marked with white.

The Painted Lady can be found almost anywhere and feed mainly on thistles.
