Centaurea montana

Mountain Cornflower

Latin name: Centaurea montana

Mountain Cornflower is a variable but attractive plant native to the mountains, meadows and woodlands of Europe. It is commonly recorded from the wild in England, Scotland and Wales, as a garden escapee. It typically has mid-green, lance-shaped leaves and bears large, deep blue or violet spidery flowers, with a violet-purple centre in early summer. The flowers attract bees, butterflies/moths and other pollinators, to the nectar and pollen-rich flowers.
