Marsh Cinquefoil
Latin name: Potentilla palustris
Marsh cinquefoil has magenta, star-shaped flowers that appear like two stars. One is small and deep magenta, which is set above a larger paler magenta one. The leaves are green, with a toothed edge and a blueish-green underside.
It starts to flower in May and goes through to July.Marsh Cinquefoil likes wet, boggy places, like fens, marshes and peaty meadows.
It is a good source of food for nectar-loving insects.
Marsh Cinquefoil is unique in Britain as it is the only one with magenta flowers. All other cinquefoils have yellow flowers.
It is common and widespread in the north and west of Britain, but less common in East Anglia and the south.
