Lilac Fibrecap

Latin name: Inocybe geophylla var. lilacina

The Lilac Fibrecap has a lilac, smooth cap that is initially conical, but as it matures, it flattens, but usually retains a centre point. The stem is smooth and lilac in colour. Both cap and stem gradually turn brown with age.

It is a very common species found beside paths, roadside verges, mud that is rich in leaf litter, under deciduous trees and in mixed woodland. They can be seen in summer and autumn.

The Lilac Fibrecap is very poisonous and its consumption can be fatal.

It is a common and widespread woodland species throughout Britain.
