Common Green Capsid

Common Green Capsid

Latin name: Lygocoris pabulinus

The Common Green Capsid is a smooth bug with its whole upper surface usually coloured green.

The female lays her eggs in leaves and when the eggs hatch in spring, the larvae feed on different fruits and vegetables. The nymphs are yellowish-green coloured and wingless.

The adult Common Green Capsid can be seen from June to October and they feed on various plants, especially nettles, but will also eat aphids, caterpillars and mites.

Adult Common Green Capsids can fly.

In winter they hide under fallen leaves, quite often under hedges, which is a good place for them to lay their eggs.

A very common bug throughout Britain.
