Latin name: Elophila nymphaeata

The Brown China-mark moth can be quite variable. Some are finely-patterned, with white patches and streaks and some are dark and dull-looking.

China-mark moths are unusual as their larvae are entirely aquatic. They feed on water plants.

The adult moth flies from June to September and can be seen around ponds, lakes and canals throughout Britain.

The Brown China-mark is a fairly common species throughout Britain.
