Mynydd Graig Goch
Mynydd Graig Goch is in Snowdonia National Park in Wales.
Mynydd Graig Goch is a mountain located at the western end of the Nantlle Ridge in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. Its name means “mountain of the red rock” in Welsh. In 2008, it was confirmed by precise GPS measurements to be just over 2,000 feet high (609.75 metres), making it the westernmost 2,000-footer in the national park.
It forms part of a dramatic upland ridge and is a subsidiary summit of Craig Cwm Silyn. The mountain features a rocky summit with tors and steep drops, especially on its north-eastern side overlooking Cwm Dulyn—a glacial valley that holds Llyn Cwm Dulyn, a lake known for its arctic char.
Despite its modest height, Mynydd Graig Goch offers excellent views. On clear days, you can see across Caernarfon Bay, the Llŷn Peninsula, and even to Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in the distance. It is much quieter than the more popular peaks in Eryri and is often walked as part of a route along the Nantlle Ridge. The terrain includes rough moorland, rocky outcrops, and occasional cairns or stone waymarkers.
Most walks begin from the village of Nebo or near Llyn Cwm Dulyn. Expect about 8 km distance with 600 metres of ascent. It’s a satisfying route for experienced walkers looking for a less-trodden path with big scenery and a sense of remoteness. Facilities nearby are limited, but Penygroes village has basic amenities.
