Belturbet
Belturbet is located on the banks of the River Erne, which has long been one of Ireland’s most popular crossings.
It was formerly the capital of the Kingdom of East Breifne, a historic Irish kingdom that existed from 1256 to 1607 and was roughly equivalent to County Cavan. Belturbet was a stronghold of Gaelic culture and many key events in Irish history have been hosted here. Belturbet is a small rural town that makes a great day trip for those interested in Irish history, who may enjoy walking along the River Erne or visiting Belturbet Castle. Belturbet also has two interesting pubs from which to sample some local flavor. Belturbet’s beautiful countryside and golden beaches make it an excellent place to visit during any season of the year.
