Holy Well Cave

Holy Well Cave is in The Lake District National Park in England.

Holy Well, also known as Fairy Cave is a small cave system in Halecat. Difficult to reach due to overgrown footpaths and evil biting flies in the summer months.

Caution, the direct, short looking route from Catcragg is signposted as a ‘Private Shooting Area’.

The interior of Holy Well Cave is damp with large rock fragments and jagged ceiling of limestone. The floor is in places treacherous with very sticky clay like mud that wants to keep your footwear. The area just past the entrance is relatively dry.

Despite being quite cramped the cave system is quite extensive but probably best left to experienced potholers once past the the first few metres.
