Gloucestershire is a historic county in the South West of England.

The county of Gloucestershire comprises part of the Cotswold Hills, part of the River Severn valley and the entire Forest of Dean. The Forest of Dean taking up the west of the county and the River Severn and its valley running between the Forest of Dean and the Cotswold Hills. The Cotswolds AONB, including the Cotswold Hills, take up a large portion of the east and south of the county. The Cotswolds was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1966. It is the largest of 46 AONBs in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the second largest protected landscape in England after the Lake District National Park.
